Boom Boom Shrimp is a crispy, golden-fried shrimp dish tossed in a spicy, creamy, and tangy Boom Boom Sauce. This easy recipe is perfect as an appetizer, taco filling, or rice bowl topping.

For the Shrimp

  • 1 lb raw shrimp (peeled & deveined)
  • ½ cup buttermilk (or regular milk)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Boom Boom Sauce

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust for heat)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional for sweetness)
  • ½ teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Shrimp

  1. Soak shrimp in buttermilk for 15-20 minutes to tenderize and enhance flavor.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. In another bowl, whisk egg with 2 tablespoons of water for the egg wash.

Step 2: Coat & Fry the Shrimp

  1. Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Dredge shrimp in flour mixture, then dip into egg wash, then coat again in flour mixture.
  3. Fry in small batches for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
  4. Drain on paper towels.

Step 3: Make the Boom Boom Sauce

  1. In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, garlic powder, honey, and lemon juice.
  2. Taste and adjust spice level as needed.

Step 4: Toss & Serve

  1. Toss fried shrimp in Boom Boom Sauce or serve it as a dipping sauce.
  2. Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, use panko breadcrumbs in the flour mixture.
  • Air Fryer Method: Cook at 375°F for 8 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Make it spicier by adding more sriracha or cayenne pepper.
